About the Preschool

Welcome to our New Director Suzi Parker

It is with great excitement and pleasure that I can announce that we have a new Pebble Preschool Director!  Please join me and the entire Preschool Board in welcoming Suzi Parker.  Suzi has the "entire package" as you will see by her qualifications:

  • Administrative Skills  Suzi was the Director and Program Supervisor at Country Village Day School for 7 years until 2000, transforming and updating a DSHS "school of concern" into a quality educational program.
  • Teaching Skills  With a degree in speech and education from University of Washington and an Early Childhood Education endorsement from Bellevue College, Suzi went on to teach for many years in public school. She understands young children and has the knowledge needed to supervise, train, and mentor teachers.
  • Communication Skills  When you meet Suzi, her outgoing and warm personality along with her common sense and enthusiasm just draw you to her.  She is a bundle of energy but also a good listener.
  • Community Connections  Suzi has lived on Mercer Island and been involved with sports, PTA, Sunday School, and more.  She understands the needs and concerns of the Mercer Island community.
  •  Parenting Skills  In addition to raising five children of her own, Suzi has two grandchildren.  Her collective wisdom comes from her own experiences and her very apparent love of children.
  • Marketing Skills For the past ten years, Suzi has been a real estate broker, successfully finding, negotiating, and selling residential homes for her clients.
  • Leadership Skills Throughout the interview process, Suzi showed her integrity, vision, and strength as a leader.  She recognizes the wonderful reputation and strength of the Pebble in our community.  While she is open to change, it will be to improve upon our current strengths to make Pebble an even better place for our children.

Welcome, Suzi!  We can't wait for you to take the Pebble into the next steps on our journey as a top quality Christian preschool.

At the PEBBLE at MIPC, our mission is to offer families a Christian environment where children will build a strong foundation of early learning experiences. Our preschool offers three-hour classes, Monday through Friday, mornings and afternoons, for children two and a half and older. A multi-age enrichment class for fours, fives, and half-day kindergartners is also offered. Please contact Suzi Parker (SuziP@MIPC.org), preschool director, for more information.

Curriculum

Our curriculum recognizes that children learn best by doing. To encourage active learning, we use the latest educational and brain research on how children learn and the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) standards of content area. A wide variety of learning experiences help children achieve balanced growth in five specific areas: spiritual, social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative.

In our curriculum, children develop creativity in art, music, and movement as well as readiness skills in literacy, math, motor skills, and science. Making choices, solving problems, and building social relationships are also important elements.

Underlying our entire curriculum is the Christian component. Through Bible stories, prayers, songs, monthly worship times, and age appropriate spiritual values, each child has a chance to deepen his/her understanding of God's love and awe for the wonders of God’s world.
