The values and experiences that we fund when we pool our money together as a church are often markedly different from the goods and services that compete for our money’s attention. But the way in which the church invites us to invest in these things is often much quieter and less demanding than the other expenses in our lives.

In a world where the loud urgency of iPods, Lexuses, and Juicy Couture is trumpeted from billboards and TV screens, and where mortgages, college loans, and medical bills have monthly due dates with legal obligation, it can be easy to lose sight of the value and weight of the things our pledges fund.
