MIPC is hosting the PNW Covenant Network Regional Conference Saturday 1/31/15 from 9:00am-3:30pm.  It will be a great chance to come together and have a chance to think deeply about how to make MIPC a more open and affirming church to members of the LGBTQ community.

The registration website is http://covnetpres.org/mercer-island-wa-regional-conference/  I would invite you to register for this great event.

We are excited to announce that Matthew Vines, founder of the Reformation Project and author of “God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships”, will be our Keynote Speaker.  Rev. Bertram Johnson, Worship Pastor at Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church, will be our preacher.  The conference will also include a screening of the groundbreaking new documentary, Queers in the Kingdom.

Sidenote:  If you are not aware, each presbytery in PCUSA is voting over the coming months on Amendment 14-F.  This would change the Book of Order's section on marriage to "Marriage involves a unique commitment between two people, traditionally a man and a woman, to love and support each other for the rest of their lives"  from its current wording that defines marriage as between a man and a woman.  It does NOT require any minister to officiate at a marriage of which he or she disapproves.

Seattle Presbytery voted last week to APPROVE this amendment; which is very exciting news!  We are waiting for results from other presbyteries nationwide.
