WELCOME KELLE BROWN
Seminary Pastor Intern

We are excited to announce that Kelle Brown, a Candidate for Ministry in Seattle Presbytery and active member in ministry at Madrona Presbyterian Church, has just begun a nine-month, ten-hour per week seminary internship here at MIPC.  Kelle will be completing a Master of Divinity degree at Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry in June of this year.

Pastor Sheri will be Kelle’s supervisor. Kelle will be involved in many aspects of the life of our church including Worship, Adult Christian Growth and Education (co-moderating the Racism in America class), Staff meetings and Pastoral Care.   We are truly blessed to have Kelle with us for the next 9 months, so be sure to give thanks to God for her, and to give her a very warm welcome!

Kelle became the Minister of Music of the Amistad United Church of Christ of Atlanta at 20 years old, initiating for the newly-formed church a choir of 8 and growing it to a choir of more than 40 within two years. Kelle became licensed in the Southern Baptist Church in 2000, and is a candidate for ministry in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A, as well as an ordained elder.

Her work as a youth minister and choir director in a variety of multicultural churches forged her desire to promote diversity and ecumenism in the church setting. As the founder of Reconciling Acts, Inc., Kelle runs a consulting group that offers churches and other organizations ways to be authentically diverse and intercultural concerning the issues of ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation and other areas of perceived distinction.  Kelle believes that there is transformative and life-giving power in reconciliation of community and in African American sacred music, and uses both as her unique ministry.

Kelle is a native of Columbus, Georgia.  She graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.  While at Spelman, she was a featured soloist and president of the famous Spelman College Glee Club.  As a student, Kelle was active in the theatrical productions of Spelman and Morehouse College, acting as the musical director and script writer.  As a member of the Glee Club, she sang with the likes of Jessye Norman, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, and performed as the solo opening act for the Isley Brothers. She is most proud of her daughter, Indigo Amari, the joy of her life.
