Nguyen Thi Mui receives her scholarship from MIPC’s International Student Scholarship Fund. Buck & Betty Kelly sponsor her. She has made solid progress in school since receiving her scholarship. This is her story....
When I look back at the passing time, I do realize that I am a lucky girl. When I got your donation, you brought me a new life.
I was born and grew up in a poor family in Thuy Yen village, away from Hue city about 50km. My parents are farmers. They work very hard to support my siblings to go to school. At that time, my only dream was to go to class. My parents accepted that, and they gave me permission to go to school like the other children.
However, after class I had to work hard to help my parents doing housework and some other things. I helped them to raise pigs, grow rice and get wood from the forest. I worked hard during my childhood to contribute to my family.
I also had to experience a hard time in my life but having the chance to school became my biggest motivation. But you know life was not easy for me all the time. My family had a lot of difficulties in life: floods, typhoons, storms and loss of crops happened many time in my village. We lost many things so my parents had to make a final decision. They could not support me to go to school anymore. I had to finish my class. For me, at that time, the door to my future was closed. I cried all day and was very disappointed. I thought that everything was finished and that my life was finished. But, it was a big surprise for me to hear from sisters in my parish about the scholarship I got from from the sponsors!
I continue to go to class until now. I cannot express how much I feel happy. God knows everything, I whispered to myself.
Now, with the help from the plan, I can afford the school fee for my study and some other school supplies. My siblings get something for their study from mine as well. We are all so happy now.
I am very happy to know that now I have someone by my side on material and spiritual field. I can go to class with my bike, new clothes... the sponsors bring me a big chance for my future. I have no words to show my feeling. How much I want to say thank you for everything to my sponsors. Thank you for your kindness.
I hope that your hands will go with all the poor children in the world.
